2023 71st St. Resurfacing
Project Summary
This project consists of grinding and resurfacing along 71st Street from the West Village Limit to Dunham Road. It also includes patching, concrete sidewalk removal and replacement, utility structure adjustments, pavement markings, sod restoration, and all incidental and collateral work necessary to complete the project. Resident driveways that will be impacted will receive notification.

October 20, 2023
Punchlist and clean up activities were completed 9/26. Sod condition was inspected for the 30-day establishment period on 10/16 and passed inspection. This will be the final update for the project.
PAST UPDATES
September 22, 2023
- Clean up and punch list items will be addressed by the Contractor and inspected in the coming weeks.
- Any sod that does not establish in a growing, healthy condition will be replaced prior to project closeout. Sod establishment/survivability is the responsibility of the contractor and residents are not required to water the sod.
September 15, 2023
- The landscaping contractor visited the site the week of September 11 for restoration work. Sod was prepped and placed.
- Clean up and punch list items will be addressed by the Contractor and inspected in the coming weeks. July 28, 2023
- The contractor will begin punch list clean-up and miscellaneous items. Sod is unable to be placed due to temperature restrictions; landscape restoration will resume when specifications permit sod to be installed, likely in September. The contractor is responsible for managing weeds and keeping the areas maintained in the meantime. Sod establishment/survivability is the responsibility of the contractor and residents are not required to water the sod.

July 21, 2023
- Paving is anticipated to be completed on 7/21.
- Parkway restoration and pavement markings are anticipated to be completed the week of 7/24.
- After pavement markings are completed, the contractor will begin punch list clean-up and miscellaneous items. July 14, 2023
- The remaining concrete work for curb and sidewalk is anticipated to be complete 7/14.
- Parkway restorations are scheduled towards the end of the week of 7/17.
- The surface grinding of 71st Street is scheduled for Tuesday 7/18. The level binder will be placed Wednesday 7/19. The final surface will be installed either at the end of the week of 7/17 or the beginning of the week of 7/24. Pavement markings to follow.

July 7, 2023
- Pouring concrete for curb and sidewalk for the north side of 71st Street is anticipated to be completed 7/7.
- Curb and concrete removals for the south side of 71st Street will occur after the concrete has cured on the north side of 71st Street and driveway access has been restored in proximity of the south side of 71st Street curb replacement. Removals in select areas on the south side of 71st Street will begin the week of 7/10. Pouring concrete is expected to be complete the week of 7/10 or early the week of 7/17.
- Residents whose driveway access will be affected by the curb repairs on the south side of 71st Street will receive door hanger notifications with additional instructions regarding on-street parking prior to removals. The Police department has been notified of this and tickets will not be issued for overnight on-street parking during this work.

June 30, 2023
- Removal and pouring concrete for curb and sidewalk for the north side of 71st Street began last week (week of 6/26). The remainder of the curb on the north side of 71st Street will be installed beginning on 7/5. Removals for curb in front of driveways on the north side of 71st Street will begin on 7/5.
- Curb and concrete removals for the south side of 71st Street will occur after the concrete has cured on the north side of 71st and the driveway access has been restored. This is anticipated to be late the week of 7/10 or the week of 7/17.
- Residents whose driveway access will be affected by the curb repairs on the north side of 71st Street received door hanger notifications with additional instructions regarding on-street parking on 6/29. The Police department has been notified of this and tickets will not be issued for overnight on-street parking during this work. Driveway access notifications for the south side of 71st Street will be delivered prior to removals.
- Impacted driveways will have access for the holiday weekend - this may include placing temporary stone where curb was removed.

June 23, 2023
- The contractor will begin sawcutting on 6/26 for curb and sidewalk removals. The contractor will then be replacing the curb and sidewalk through the end of the week. The contractor will be working on one side of 71st Street and then the other. The remainder of the curb will be installed the week of 7/5.
- Residents whose driveway access will be affected by the curb repairs will receive door hanger notifications with additional instructions regarding on-street parking. The Police department has been notified of this and tickets will not be issued for overnight on-street parking during this work.

The pre-construction meeting for this project is scheduled for June 14, at which time the project schedule will be better established. Residents in the resurfacing areas will be mailed notification letters with additional information following this meeting.
